Motivation

Motivation is what people need to complete tasks and goals in life.  Motivation provides a person with the desire to accomplish tasks or goals.  I have different motivations like my children and desire for accomplishments.  My children help push me through the tough roads of my life.  I feel like I need to be a good role model for my children.  I need to be someone who could say, "I've been there and done that!"  Of course my desire to succede and accomplish has been around before my children.  I have always been the kind of person likes to tackle challenges head on.  It feels good to accomplish things that not everyone can do.

How do literacies connect with culture?

In the 1980's, when I was in elementary, I remember cultures and literacies were different then now.  Teachers would have notes on the board for us to copy down manually, now teachers have power points on the overhead projector and printed handouts for students.  To call our parents we had to use a pay phone, now we see elementary students outside texting or talking away on their cells.  In a away this change in our cultures is good or bad in my view.  We have so many literacies now like internet, cell phones, video games, and so much more.  It's no wonder to me that our surrounding cultures are so technical.  My daughter has a video game called a Diji (like a PSP) for early childhood development.  It teachers her math and spelling skills. Wow, I wish we had this back in the old days!  No wonder kids are smarter these days.  So, about the bad,  I think children are lazier now.  My son feels like he can't live without his cell phone or XBOX.  In my observations in different classrooms the kids seem to hate those few teachers that make them write notes by hand.  "God forbid!" So, technology in my opinion is one of the factors that connect literacies and cultures.
